Why the Window Seat Wins for Sleep
The window seat gives you something no other spot can: a solid surface to lean against. That wall becomes a natural headrest. You can angle your body, brace a pillow, and create a mini sleep nest without worrying about the drink cart bumping your elbow.
You also control the light. No one will open the shade while you are dozing. You decide when the world outside stays dark. For anyone sensitive to sudden brightness, that control is priceless.
The Aisle Advantage
The aisle offers freedom. Bathroom trips do not require climbing over strangers. Stretching your legs is easier. If you are tall, the aisle lets you extend into the walkway during calm moments.
The tradeoff is clear. You get mobility at the cost of peace. Every passenger walking to the restroom becomes a potential wake-up call. The drink cart will brush past your shoulder. Flight attendants may nudge you upright to let someone pass.

Temperature also plays a role. Aisle seats sit closer to high-traffic zones where doors open and close. Cold drafts and warm bursts from the galley can disrupt your body as it tries to cool down for sleep.
The Verdict
If your priority is actual sleep, book the window. Bring a neck pillow that braces you against the wall. If your priority is comfort and mobility, accept that you will sacrifice some rest for convenience.
For the best of both worlds, the middle seat is rarely the answer. Reserve that for traveling companions who do not mind being a human armrest.
